SEM Standard 2011

On 31st March and 1st April 2011 third edition of SEM Standard conference took place in which we participated.

As every year SEM Standard introduces us to world’s best practices, showing latest trends on SEM/SEO market and marketing strategies in search engines. This year the conference was dedicated to advertisements in search engines and context networks.

The special guest was Gillian Muessig, the president and co-founder of SEOmoz American service (www.seomoz.org), which a source of knowledge about SEO for actuators from all over the world.
Altogether, there were 22 thematic blocks, from which everyone could find something of interest to him/herself.

There were many questions concerning among other: best tools for conversion increase, ways of using SEO/PPC as a tool supporting purchase processes in e-commerce or ways of designing service against search engines.

A lot of interesting information was mentioned as well. We found out, for instance, that CTR’s in natural search results for the first position are 45%, while for the second 28%, for the third 20% and for the remaining only 7%. Date although average and concerns the world market, gives a lot to think about.

Even more interesting turned out to be the split of SEO budżet vs. PPC. PPC is globally about 8% of clicks, while SEO is about 92% and the budget share inversely proportional – sponsored links – 90%, organic results – 10%.

A lot of valuable information concerning changes on display market show form the AdWords client’s and AdSense publisher’s view was shared by Piotr Marzec. Piotr also showed us for the first time the official Google +1 Button.
Dominik Wałęga from Next told us about mobile search, the most dynamically developing trend and its impact on SEM work.

Last, but not least the speech which drew special attention among the audience.
Słąwek Graczy and Krzysztof Piwowar from Adv.pl touched the topic of SUO  (Search and User Optimization).
In a free translation it means optimization of the service both for the search engines and users.
Here, a team is essential consisting of SEO specialists and usability, which should be a standard in many projects.
